Diabetes causes a lot of problems for many people, and one of them is skin conditions of various types. My article here is an overview of some of these and tells of ways to recognize the most common ones.

Vitiligo is often a common diabetic skin problem. It makes its appearance by causes various places on the body from the stomach, chest, facial area, and back to become discolored as in white spots known as depigmentation. It is a progressing condition over the years.

Brown or tan spots in circular forms on the legs are known as diabetic dermopathy. These are not really harmful, but they look bad on the skin. Because of the effect that diabetes has on the blood vessels is why this happens.

If you notice that skin darkens in patches, this is known as Acanthosis Nigricans. The skin will not only darken a lot, but will be thick as well. This is more frequent in overweight people.

Necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum is another skin problem in diabetes where lesions are formed on the legs in the lower parts, face, back, and arms. The lesion starts out as a small red area, and then grows much larger. The condition can turn into actual ulcers if not treated.

The best way to avoid these skin conditions with diabetes is to monitor your blood sugars and prevent your glucose levels from going too high as much as possible. Work with your doctor to achieve good glucose control!
