Had a wonderful outing with Yoong. And nope, I didn't do any real shopping.

The city has an exotic sight of faires and vampires.. Now if only I'm a little kid, that would be great to have my face painted white and pretend for just one day that I'm a zombie -__-

Enjoy With The English Ghost

Dress up, make up, gather some friends, have a drink, and remember to partay... Cuz this is the only day throughout the year that you get to dress up sluttily or scarily or prettily or atrociously or angelicly or devily or stunningly or uglily..

cute happy halloween 2009 Pictures, Images and Photos

Happy English Ghost Festival my dear friends... All of us could do with a break... So enjoy...

As for me?? Am going to the city and look at some art craft fair and enjoy the fireworks at night. Nah, not really into partying or drinking or dressing up :P

Vox Pop suggestion for the AJN

We are again mightily impressed with the Jewish News' concerns for Kashrut. And that is why we make the suggestion that for a future Vox Pop they ask members of the community about their views regarding the nation's "Jewish" newspaper advertising and publicising Treif establishments and products.

How about it?

Rabbis "respectfully" request Kosher functions

Looks like the letters of Mr David Ainsworth and Rabbi Chaim Ingram (published here on AJN Watch) have Baruch Hashem awakened Australia's rabbinical establishment from their slumber. And not a moment too early. Better late than never…

But we are not convinced that “appealing respectfully” to local Jewish organizations to make their affairs “kosher-only” will do the job. Rabbis, rabbinical organizations, orthodox shuls and of course our Kashrut organizations must become far more outspoken and forceful by taking a hard line against any group that hosts treif functions. This is the only way that they will achieve the aim.

There is absolutely no reason for any organization not to use the services of one of the many excellent and reputable Kosher caterers that we have. They offer high-class food and prices that are close enough to what is charged by treif food vendors. (Not that price should in any way be the deciding factor.)

Another very important sector whose voice should be raised in protests are the wealthy frum Jews of our communities. There are dozens of such families in Melbourne and Sydney and they have a duty to use their influence (and money) for this holy endeavor. They are regularly invited to attend communal functions where, if they are lucky, the organizers are “kind enough” to supply them with “special Kosher meals” - as if they were airline passengers.

These financially fortunate people should clearly assert themselves and take a firm hard line by notifying all organizations that they will refuse to attend any event where treif food is served.

So over to you our “ashirim”. Hashem has been good to you. Now it’s pay-back time.

OFF WITH HER HEAD!

My life is a fucking mess today.
I have a Judas is my midst.
And her name is Joan.
A scheming, not to be trusted woman who does nothing but cause problems everywhere she lurks.

Nothing is going right and I really want to jump off a cliff...... after I push her off first.
The dirty has been done, and I'm covered in her crap.
Pretty crap.
I need a million gallons of water to feel clean again.
The tricky one will pay.

My Queen is headless now, like Marie.
A fake monarch eating too much cake.
A phony friend with a brittle backbone.
Nothing will ever be the same again.
Friend.
I am healthier than all of you so don't kill me with your ignorance.

And Queen your Yaya will take half..... one day.
It's on the cards and you will regret being so easily led like a lame thirsty heifer.
Joan's ring will always be through your nose love.

And you'll have nothing but a yearning for our friendship because no one could ever love you more.
You will see that one day.
But you blew it bad.
And you are no longer the esteemed person I thought you were.
You failed me as a friend and you know it.

And when Joan takes everything, then I can call you stupid.
Like you called me stupid.
When I lost everything to the evil little Pinoy.

Stupid is as stupid does friend.

Twenty years down the drain.
Poof, gone.
Are you happy wife/thief?
You only came here because you were fired for stealing from ABS-CBN!
YOU are the fraud Joan.
A complete fraud.
You stole from Cristine Reyes and you got caught!
My ex Queen is married to a thief.

I'm a gay without his one time cornerstone......
Now I will rely on myself and not a false heart like hers.

Tragedy is literally surrounding me as I feel the bitches gossiping and talking about me like they know me.

This is like a Shakespeare tragedy, only worse.
I can't recall a time when I have felt sadder than I do now.
The treachery is all around me.

I try so hard.
And yet I fail.
I am so depressed.
They play with me.
A sad sad tune.

It's been so difficult for me moving back to Canada after twenty five years in Australia.
Sometimes I think people just don't understand how hard it is to leave everything behind for a new beginning.
They don't take the time to examine the entire picture.
The entire journey.......

How can I hurt this much?
How can anyone hurt this much?
You failed me with your silence.
Our friendship is over now....
Dead like the feeling inside my heart for what you have done.
You don't deserve me friend.
You deserve your wife.
The trouble maker.
Mark my words Queen, you will regret what you've done.
Or rather not done

I don't have a family.
Just a mummy.
Some people will never know what it's like to grow up without a dad, or sisters and brothers.
It's just me.
By myself.
Me against the world.

It's not fair that I am being punished for being afraid.
I'm so afraid.

Afraid to be on my own.
Out there, on my own.
Alone.

Abandoned?
I know it well.
This is not a new thing for me.
The world is full of flaky people.

I will survive without my Queen.

And her court.

Ancient But Yet Addictive

Oh yeah, totally addictive... He was like holding and playing it for about almost an hour per day. Like its even more attractive than PS or XBOX or Wii. And it just cost him $2 (Sing Dollar).

Why are the snacks sold here so so tasteless and make me wanna gag!!! Argh!! Am not going to buy that potato chips again. Really, I rather eat Brinjals (those who know me will know that I hate brinjals).

Of interest: Interviewed for Film in Focus' Behind the Blog

For those of you interested in "the man behind the curtain," an interview I did for Film in Focus' blog went up yesterday. All of the questions related to this here blog as part of their Behind the Blog series, which they started little over two years ago with our ol' pal Andrew Grant. Let me know what you think. The goal for the day is to get some more of the Decade List's entries written up, but I've had a cold that's been annoying and wishy-washy (it can't decide whether it wants to turn into a full one or go away) for the past couple of weeks. With just over two months left in the year, I'm trying to wind things down, but I'm still taking suggestions if you think of some films I must see before even attempting to embark on a Best of the Decade list.

Also, I just noticed that the Butt Magazine Blog put up some great photos of Rossy de Palma, one of my favorite of Almodóvar's muses. de Palma, who has an all-too-brief appearance in Broken Embraces [Los abrazos rotos], was interviewed in a recent "straight" issue from Butt.

Mathew's Victory

l to r-Mathew's parents Judy and Dennis Shepard
,the late Mathew Shepard(RIP) and the incredible moment in Washington when President Barack Obama signed the new anti hate crime legislation

-President Obama signed major civil rights legislation on Wednesday, making it a federal hate crime to assault people based on sexual orientation, gender and gender identity. The new measure expands the the scope of a 1968 law that applies to people attacked because of their race, religion or national origin. The U.S. Justice Department will have expanded authority to prosecute such crimes when local authorities don't.

The provision, called the Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. It is named after Matthew Shepard, a gay college student tortured and killed in 1998, and James Byrd Jr., a black man who was chained to a pickup truck and dragged to his death the same year.

Huffingtonpost(click) and Unfinishedlivesblog.com

Dear Readers,

If you're a gay man you should already know about Mathew Shepard's incredible story.
If you don't know about Mathew.... then please read about the epic struggle his most loving parents waged to get this ground breaking anti hate legislation through the American political system. Any person who has been murdered for being a homosexual makes me want to cry a million tears. Gay men all over the world are tortured and killed just for being gay. This legislation is just the first step to lifting Mathews honor, beauty and legacy closer to the clouds where he resides now. I love you Mathew like millions of people love you all over the world. When you died, I cried. Your parents are angels who continue to protect your spirit here on earth. I would take ten years off my life if only to give them to you Mathew. I want to cry just thinking about the way you were murdered. We love you Mathew. You're a hero to us. And your parents Judy and Dennis are the parents of the decade if you ask me.

I Just Love Eating Out

I had noticed a trend of me and Yoong. Whenever we are out and about, or trying to find some place to ease our rumbling tummy, we do tend to choose Chinese... And we do know that the Chinese restaurant here doesn't really offer great and cheap food but still, our craving for our root dishes are deeply embellished into our taste buds.

So thus, we chose this wee restaurant which is situated along Dublin Road, on the 2nd story of the row of shops.

The service here was quite attentive with the manager introducing us to which is nice and what's their signature dishes. He even tried to please us by saying they'll try to cook when I said that I wanted Hokkien Mee. -__-

Just came back from Causeway city and was dead tired to even cook dinner for ourselves.

The ambience of the restaurant certainly is great. Love how they decor the restaurant which tons of lightings and chandeliers and other bright ornaments. Very classy indeed.

Our dinner, which at 1st glance was tasty looking and really making me salivate right now.

Ma Po Tau Fu was indeed the tastiest of the whole lot. The super smooth and chewy texture of the pork was the whole attraction. I really still could vividly remember the texture as it was the best I'd ever eaten in Belfast. Couldn't comment much on the tofu but it definitely pass the silky smooth test. All in all, I'd give it a 9/10. Even Yoong was enjoying it a lot.

The Beijing pork chop is another highlight of that dinner. I love the sweet and sour taste as well as the texture of the pork was not tough and unseperable. You know, how tough certain pork chops are and you probably need a cow's energy to chew them. Give it a 7.5/10

I didn't take any close-range photo of the noodles as that was the worst dish and nothing worth mentioning. I'm not even grading it because it was yucky like that. Yoong and I could cook much delicious noodles.
I will definitely come back to taste more of their dishes as the 1st two were pretty promising. Maybe we went on a Tuesday and the chef was in a good mood? -__-

I Love Fall

It's Official; Inset Bad Pun About Finding a Home

I had heard a while back that Lorber Films were looking to, or had already, acquired Ursula Meier's Home, which stars Isabelle Huppert and Olivier Gourmet as bohemian parents of three children whose happy existence is threatened by the opening of a new highway about twenty feet in front of their once secluded abode. Home was selected as Switzerland's official submission for next year's foreign language Academy Award, and according to Variety, Lorber Films will release it in New York on 27 November. I'll be writing about the film soon. Think of a warmer The Seventh Continent. Or... maybe not.

The Decade List: Albums/Singles (2007)

I falsely assumed that the closer I got to the present, the bigger the music posts would get... and while 2007 has 120 individual songs singled out, I couldn't find much more than ten, or eleven, albums worth listing as my favorite. Naturally, PJ Harvey's finest offering this decade, the piano-based, moody, stripped-down White Chalk, topped the list. It's perfect timing, seeing as it's been close to two years and a month since White Chalk was released, and I can think of no better autumn album (though the weather here has been more nasty than mild this year).

By limiting his second full-length album to close to half the self-titled's songs, a single disc and a lot less "Daft Punk Is Coming to My House" obnoxiousness, LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy crafted an amazing, layered electronica album in Sound of Silver. The sole pop album, Kylie Minogue's X, felt disappointing upon its release, but, at least for me, has managed to hold up two years later, certainly better than M.I.A.'s Kala, a step up from her debut (aside from the grudgingly overplayed "Paper Planes") but an album whose delights reveal themselves too quickly. No Age's Weirdo Rippers filled in at the eleventh spot as it technically isn't an album as much as it is a compilation of their previous EPs. The rest of the albums below are listed in vague order of preference.

PJ Harvey - White Chalk
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Blonde Redhead - 23
Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
Benjamin Biolay - Trash yéyé
Justice - (Cross)
Studio - Yearbook 1
Kylie Minogue - X
Montag - Going Places
M.I.A. - Kala
No Age - Weirdo Rippers*

Assorted Jams for the Year 2007

Again, I've singled out the best songs, in my not-so-humble, extremely-biased opinion. Below you'll find the Top 35, an arbitrary round-ish number, in descending order of preference. Below that you'll find 85 more songs, not organized in any way. Strangely, I have little to say this year.

I will, however, point you to some of the more impressive music videos (some of which weren't released until 2008 with the actual single). Naturally, Feist's lovely "1234" [d. Patrick Daughters], Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" [d. Spike Jonze], Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." [d. Jonas & François] (which was nominated for MTV's Video Music Award for Best Video, only to lose to Rihanna's "Umbrella." Similar to the year the Academy nominated David Lynch for Mulholland Drive, MTV should have just not nominated the video if they weren't going to give it to them), Björk's "Dull Flame of Desire" featuring Antony Hegarty [d. Christoph Jantos, Masahiro Mogari, Marçal Cuberta Juncà] (a collaborative video combining three fan-submitted ideas that works rather seamlessly) and M.I.A.'s "Jimmy" [d. Nezar Khammal].

Special mention for two live-recorded Beirut videos, for "Nantes" and "Cliquout" (with Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear lending his vocals instead of Zach). And for the person who got Beyoncé and Shakira to look like the same damn person!

Though MPI, IFC Films has announced several more DVD releases for the first part of 2010, most notably Philippe Garrel's Frontier of the Dawn [La frontière de l'aube] for 26 January. Sambal Tumis, The Lazy Way

This is like super easy, and all you need are three ingredient, pre-packaged Brahim's Sambal Tumis sauce, Chicken fillet and some chopped onions.

Heat some oil in pan, stir fry onions till golden brown, add in chicken, stir fry for 1 minute, add paste and add water. Cook for about 10-13 minutes. Then serve.

See, I didn't need to write so much about the steps and ingredients. But I can tell you, it certainly does taste freaking delish and hopefully I will cook this again cuz the packet sauce cost about £1.40 which was like so expensive.
On another note, I need more cash!!! Tons of things to buy but so little moolah :(

Denied- Jethro Cuenca Patalinghug is distressed

Let's call it "Sour Graping" just to mock the very idea... - by Jethro Cuenca Patalinghug

I just talked to the organizers and they told me they reviewed the results and it was really like that... and so I said okay I guess I have to accept it. Then they started offering that they will actually do some projects with me, produce me or something so I don't have to worry. Out of curiosity I asked how the scoring went, they said I was 4th and was 1.3 behind getting a place, and so I ask how did I get a .3 when the scaling was 1-5, 1 being the most preferred and and 5 the least preferred.
The other organizer said the scoring from the pre-pageant contributed, but from what I understood it was back to zero during the top 8 so I questioned it, she said that it did contribute to the final score, I insisted I thought it was clearly explained to us that it was back to zero, then she said there are scores from the pre-pageant that contributed, so I asked "like what?", and she couldn't answer so she referred to the score they had in hand, and now my score suddenly turned into the 3.3 figure, the other organizer tried to help explain and said they could only intervene if there was a tie, I said we were not talking about a tie, no tie happened, we were talking about the final five ranking, and then he tried to explain they were only basing it on paper. I said I'm sorry sir but I'm afraid I didn't get a clear explanation from you...the conversation ended shortly as I thanked them for the good experience that I had.

As much as I wanted to help them sort out the truth, it did not come out...I'm sorry, I was ready to settle things out and even submit myself to whatever decisions they had, grant that I knew the truth. I perfectly understand their priorities, there are future projects at stake, thus I was willing to help and forget about getting what was rightfully mine. But much to my disappointment, I did not get an honest and clear explanation...

I have always been a fighter of the truth, its in my blood, my mom instilled it in me. Sorry I will not let this pass... Hopefully the video of the pageant will speak for itself...

It doesn't end here, I am still very thankful because I had a wonderful experience, I think that despite what happened I was still able to achieve my goal - to spread the message of diversity in the Philippines. I think I have contributed, in my own little way, to counter the negative judgment put upon gay people in this unique society which practically works on class system, "capitalism" and sometimes homophobia.

To Mr. Gay World Philippines... I truly wish you the best

P.S.
Thank you Boy Abunda for reassuring me during our private talk and telling me I had the better hand in the competition. Thank you Melo for being one of the judges and for telling me I was number one in your tally. Thank you Raymond Lee for being one of the judges and telling me the same thing. Thank you Joel Cruz for also being one of judges and choosing me to get your special award. Most importantly Thank you Direk Ronald Carballo for that hug which comforted me, thank you for standing up for me even for that slight moment and telling me there might have been a technical error and that the ranking might have been turned upside down. Thank you to the rest of the judges who also thought I deserved the title...thank you

What went wrong?

Super Scary

I sort of forgot, until I wasted my time watching the movie Trick 'r Treat, which came highly recommended to me by at least three people, that I co-wrote a Halloween-themed short a couple of years ago, with my friends Stewart Copeland and Chris Drummond. It was called Plastic Skeletons, and you can watch it below if you're so inclined. We made it as part of the 48 Hour Film Project. I don't think I particularly like it, but then again, I don't like most of the stuff I've done, film or otherwise. Ha. A self-deprecating plug. It does have at least three references to Bette Midler; but some of it is, as expected, cringe-worthy.

Bangor

Went for an outing at Bangor which is like 40 minutes drive from Belfast by car with my friend, Judith.

Photobucket
The wee red dot with the speech bubble would be the location of Bangor in the Northern Ireland map.
We specially went there to shop at the Sunday flee market because we heard there were many good bargains. I know, we Malaysians are always sceptical about using 2nd hand stuff by perceiving how dirty the stuff are, but really, you'll never know once you get your hands on them.

Lovely jewellery but mine broke after wearing it like 3 times. The moral of the story?? Never buy accessories in flee market, they aren't as study as they seem.

My friend. ^__^

I think B angor is famous for its port and embankment for loads of yatch, fishing boats and small cruise to anchor. Aaahh, the world of the rich....

Lovely lovely seabay view...

Yeah, forgot to bring out my sunnies and cap... Isshh!!

Don't ask me where this is, cuz I can't find a word for it. A shore maybe!!??

That's me and my friend, trying to figure out how cold is the water and where does all those kelp (sort of like seaweed thingy lying on the shore) come from.

Last but not least, a wee photo of the both of us. We really do look alike, don't we?? People thought we are bro and sis -__-
