Natural Envy Spotlights: Tarin

KS:  When  did you decide to go Natural & what motivated you to do it?
Tarin: I decided to go natural my junior year of high school (2004) after somehow coming across nappturality.com and seeing all the beautiful women with their natural hair. I stopped going to the hair salon until my mother forbid me from going natural so I permed again. My last perm was for senior prom in May 2005.
KS: Have you ever had a perm and what was your experience?
Tarin: I received my first perm when I was 5 years old by my cousin who was in beauty school. I remember the feeling of the burning sensation and couldn't understand why I being put through this pain.
KS: What are you favorite products to use?
Tarin: I love Curls products, Organic Root Stimulator's lock and twist gel and replenishing conditioner.
KS:  What do you do, any special talents?
Tarin: I am Public Relations Specialist helping women owned small businesses. I also have my own natural hair media company Naturally Me! Media.
KS:  What has been the response with your natural choices positive and negative?
Tarin: When I first went natural I got a lot a flack because my hair was past shoulder length relaxed and i chopped it off to my ears! But I just held my head high and didn't take it personally. Some people have long , straight hair so deeply ingrained in them that when they see someone go outside of the box it challenges everything they believe so they have to "attack" you. Now that my hair is even longer than it was when I had a perm people just mainly feel as though i should straighten it more.
KS:  Do you feel more free, more yourself?  Describe why?
Tarin: I feel like me. I love my big, fluffy, floppy hair! I can't imagine my hair any other way. It's definetly my crown & glory.
