Marjorie is a Partner in our Halifax office with a varied litigation and administrative law practice with a focus on regulatory and liability issues for professionals. She represents many professional regulatory bodies such as the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Architects Association, and several others.
Marjorie has acted in many cases to prosecute disciplinary matters, and has also acted as chair or independent legal counsel for adjudicative panels regarding disciplinary matters, and as defence counsel to professionals charged with disciplinary violations. She also acts as defence counsel to insurers of professionals. She appears before all levels of court in Nova Scotia and before many administrative tribunals. Marjorie is listed by Best Lawyers in Canada 2010 for her practice in Legal Malpractice Law. Marjorie also drafts and interprets governing legislation, providing strategic policy and operational advice to self-governing organizations. Likewise, she helps health facilities prepare and interpret hospital by-laws, develop risk management strategies, handle privileges issues and confidentiality of medical information matters relevant to patient safety.
Marjorie is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and currently serves as the President of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. She recently retired as a Commander in the Naval Reserve, having served 35 years in various positions, including the Regional Coordinator of Naval Reserve Units in Atlantic Canada and past Commanding Officer of HMCS SCOTIAN. She is a member of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires' Board of Governors and formerly sat on the Minister of National Defence's Advisory Board on Gender Integration and Employment Equity in the Canadian Forces. In 2009 she was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and was a recipient of the Zenith Award, which recognized leading women lawyers in Canada.
