Anderson's Good Demo

CNN's Anderson Cooper Strong in Demo, Still Low in Total Viewers

Published: August 23, 2011 @ 7:45 am

By Lucas Shaw

Several news outlets were quick to jump on Anderson Cooper’s soft first week in his new time slot, which ran from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12. Cooper, reporting from Somalia for most of the week, attracted fewer viewers than he did at his old slot – 10 p.m., which is when his show now re-airs – and lower ratings than all three of his competitors – Bill O’Reilly, Lawrence O’Donnell and Nancy Grace.

Well, after week two Cooper is still doing better at 10 p.m. than 8 p.m. and his competitors are still beating him, but any detractors were a bit hasty then and remain so now.

When it comes to his first week, his trip to Somalia is a relevant factor.

As one industry expert told me “You got to Somalia, you don’t win the viewership. And I say ‘you know what, ok,’ If you think going to Somalia and covering a famine is going to get you viewers, you must be living on another planet.”

As for this most recent week, there is some reason for optimism. This is not because Cooper’s numbers are fantastic – they’re not – but because there were signs of improvement and because Cooper continues to demonstrates his appeal to the coveted adults 25-54 demographic.

Cooper’s numbers this past week grew substantially. His total viewership increased 18 percent, from 502,000 to 591,000 and his viewers in the demo grew 30 percent, from 162,000 to 210,000.

While the number of total viewers remains low, his performance in the demo is what CNN seems to be focusing on. As one spokesperson pointed out, Cooper beat MSNBC’s “Last Word” among those viewers for the week.

There is one crucial piece of information missing – O’Donnell was not hosting the show as he took time off following the passing of his mother.

Cooper also continues to excel at 10 p.m., which suggests one of two things – his competition is simply weaker there or his audience has not caught up with the switch. Both are likely the case. The competition is stronger at 8 p.m., especially given O'Reilly's popularity, but when it comes to the end of summer, TV watching habits are also unpredictable.

As the same expert told me, “Viewership traditionally is down and it’s a really bad time to make very much of any kind of viewer habit this time of year.”

So should CNN be excited? Maybe not, but any kind of alarm is premature.

During & After Giggling

Anderson Cooper can’t stop laughing during segment on ‘public urinator’ Gerard Depardieu

By Jen Chaney

Anderson Cooper: why so not serious on CNN last night? Blame it on the Depardieu. (ANDREW KELLY - REUTERS)

Anderson Cooper’s RidicuList, a lighter-side-of-the-news staple of his program on CNN, got so ridiculous last night that it finally got the better of him.

During a pun-filled segment devoted to Gerard Depardieu’s recent urinating-on-a-plane incident, Cooper gamely stifled laughter while pumping out commentary that involved phrases like “an actual thespian actually thes-peein’” as well as a particularly clever play on words that involved Depardieu’s role in “La Vie en Rose.” (That movie was about Edith Piaf. You can probably guess where that one went.)

But at the 2:30 mark in the video below — when Cooper says the cleaning crew should “thank their lucky stars it wasn’t Depar-doo” — the distinguished journalist once hailed for his investigative reports during Hurricane Katrina starts giggling like a preteen girl with braces and a vicious Justin Bieber crush.

Watch below and see. It’s something to behold.

Anderson Cooper explains his live laughing fit

By Jen Chaney

Anderson Cooper: well aware of his giggle issues. (BRENT STIRTON - CNN)

When Anderson Cooper cracked up during his Gerard Depardieu/pee-pee-pun-filled segment on CNN last week, the clip went viral. Why? Because no human can resist the powerful combination of Cooper’s decidedly goofy giggle and a French actor’s lack of urinary restraint.

But apparently the popularity of the video caught Cooper by surprise.

“I went to bed telling myself, ‘I doubt anyone will notice the giggle fit,’” the newsman tells Entertainment Weekly. “I woke up and in the elevator the first thing my building super said to me was, ‘What’s wrong with your laugh?’ It could be worse: I could have a viral video in which I throw up on a guest or drunkenly eat a hamburger on a bathroom floor. Not that I’ve ever done either of those things. Not yet at least.”

That’s right, Cooper. Keep your viral video options open.

As for the nature of that laugh — which is decidedly less distinguished than Mr. Cooper’s reputation — he says, “I’ve always giggled like a 13 year-old girl at a Justin Bieber meet and greet. There’s nothing I can do about it but I’ve never not been able to stop.”

Actually, I went with the simile, “giggling like a preteen girl with braces and a vicious Justin Bieber crush.” So close enough. Relive the tittering via the clip below.

Anderson Cooper talks his on-air laughing fit: 'I've always giggled like a 13-year-old girl at a Justin Bieber meet and greet'

by Tim Stack

It’s safe to say Anderson Cooper finds laughs in bathroom humor. Just last Thursday, a video clip from Cooper’s CNN show, Anderson Cooper 360, went viral after the anchor fell into an mean case of the giggles during his “Ridiculist” segment. The subject? Actor Gerard Depardieu’s airplane urination which Cooper said at least wasn’t a “Depar-TWO.”

Now, Cooper tells EW he’s even surprised by how popular the footage became. “I don’t know what happened with the giggling,” Cooper tells EW. “I mean, I’ve always giggled like a 13 year-old girl at a Justin Bieber meet and greet. There’s nothing I can do about it but I’ve never not been able to stop. I’m a little stunned by how many people have seen that video. I went to bed telling myself, ‘I doubt anyone will notice the giggle fit.’ I woke up and in the elevator the first thing my building super said to me was, ‘What’s wrong with your laugh?’ It could be worse: I could have a viral video in which I throw up on a guest or drunkenly eat a hamburger on a bathroom floor. Not that I’ve ever done either of those things. Not yet at least.”

Little Luxury Bathroom Vanities

Little Luxury Bathroom Vanities the home is at a premium and will likely be filled with storage of all sorts from built-in cupboards to walk-in wardrobes toy boxes to hanging saucepan racks But the one area where many of us can afford to create an air of luxury is in the bathroom It is not necessary to have a huge bathroom to make it feel like a special place We all enjoy time to ourselves and sometimes when we have a family especially the bathroom is the only place we get left in peace So why not make it a room where you can lock yourself in and indulge yourself for a few short minutes or if you are lucky even longer! You can do this with just a little careful planning and forethought and consideration for the sort of bathroom vanities bathing areas and accessories you prefer If you have the room for a full-size bath and enjoy a good soak make that the center point of the room either by designing your bathroom so that the bath is the center of attention when you first enter or by positioning it so that it is surrounded by all the other furniture If you have insufficient space for a luxury bath why not install a power operated shower so that you can relax under pulsing water to soothe those tired muscles at the end of the day And think carefully before installing lighting—depending on your tastes you may prefer bright or subdued lighting around the bath/shower cubicle so make sure you check out all the options available Make the most of wall space by hanging cupboards and shelves around the bath or shower where you can keep your fabulously scented soaps bubble baths and moisturizers and let the essentials get taken care of by some judicious use of space in terms of bathroom vanities Towels spare soaps and other necessaries the family in general can all be stored and easily accessed in the areas below the hand basin and if you look around you will find a huge range of bathroom vanities with capacious drawer space yet which do not take up too much room thus leaving ample space for your luxurious bath or shower area Many bathroom vanities can be wall-hung too which looks fabulous and allows extra room for feet walking around the room

Bathroom Vanities Composite

Bathroom Vanities Composite

new bathroom vanities opt for composite woods. These are not as costly as solid hardwoods but have a beauty all of their own and can be used for remodeling purposes. On top of that, these newer bathroom vanities not only add to the décor of the bathroom, but also provide additional storage space. As is the case with most homes, more space is usually desired. Composite bathroom vanities are available through online sites that sell these items to both contractors as well as individuals who are looking to remodel their bathrooms. In an effort to save money, a great deal of people are putting in their own bathroom vanities and doing as much remodeling work as then can, instead of leaving it all up to the contractor. They find that they save money when they go to an online site that will sell these items instead of using an off line store that may be limited as far as selection and not offer the best price. Regardless of the type of vanity that you want for the bathroom, chances are that you can find it right online. This is where the bargains are when it comes to these items as well as others that are used for remodeling a home. The bathroom is one of the most important rooms to remodel, regardless of whether you are thinking of selling your home or staying in it. People who look at a home that has a completely remodeled bathroom are more inclined to buy it or rent it simply because of this fact. An old and cluttered bathroom is not desired by most people. Most want their bathrooms to be neat and orderly as well as reflect the décor of the day. This can easily be accomplished by replacing the vanities as in most cases with an older home, they are dated and may not offer the best storage options. Today, the vanities have built in storage tools that make it even easier for anyone to organize their bath. This includes cupboards for holding such items as towels and hairspray as well as drawers for razors, makeup and other incidentals that are usually found in the bathroom. It is important to measure for size if you plan on remodeling your own bathroom.
