Douglas A. Bedford, B.A.(Hons), LL.B., M.A., M.B.A.


Called to the Bar in Manitoba in 1982 after articling with the firm of Tupper & Adams. Practiced with Tupper & Adams from 1982 through 2002 [laterally as a partner from 1987 to 2002]. Practice focused over the years mainly in civil litigation with particular emphasis in field of insolvency law. In December 2002 joined the legal department of Manitoba Hydro and continue to be employed there. First elected a Bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba in April 1994 and re-elected 1996 and again in 2001, 2003 and 2006. Elected President of the Law Society in May 2007. Currently Past President of the Law Society and Life Bencher.


He has been involved extensively over the years on various committees of the Law Society. Member of the Legal Fees Advisory Committee, the Standards Committee, Complaints Investigation Committee, the Practice and Ethics Committee, the Admissions and Education Committee, Professional Liability Claims Fund Committee, Discipline Committee, the Reimbursement Claims Fund Committee, CEO Budget Advisory Committee and President's Code of Conduct Committee. Law Society Designate to Articling Committee, the Electronic Transcript for the Court of Appeal Committee, Legal Data Resources Corporation and Advisary Committee on Federal Judicial Appointments. Currently vice Chairperson of the Special Committee on Access to Justice

Member of the Advocates Society of Manitoba. Past Director of the Manitoba Association of Rights and Liberties. Member of the Canadian Bar Association. Occasional lecturer on legal topics in field of insolvency law, builders' liens, civial litigation and legal ethics. Enthusiastic piper who has an avid interest in almost anything historical.
